On Wednesday September 6, 2017 and Thursday September 20, 2017, the Virgin Islands experienced two major category five hurricanes. During the Hurricanes, I had a very traumatic experience. Hurricane Irma came at around 2:00 in afternoon and Maria was here overnight. I was fine with the time that Irma came around but I didn’t like the time that Maria came around because it was over night and if something were to happen to me and my family then we wouldn’t have been able to do anything about it because we were all tired and feel asleep.
On Wednesday September 6, 2017, Irma hit St. Thomas this was a bad experience for my family. This how it all started: in the morning we woke up and called all of our family members to make sure that they were all ready and prepared for the storm. After that we closed all of our shutters, we tried to get relaxed so that when the storm came we weren't all panicked. At about 1:45 I started to wash the dishes when my ears started ringing so i dropped my plate and ran outside into the living room; when I reached inside the living room, I saw that the front door had been blown open then I started to scream, “Mom, dad help! The front door blew open!” My dad then ran outside and tried to help me push the door in but we failed; my mom and brother then came to help us push. At about 3:00, the wind started to calm down so we went and gathered all of our furniture and pushed it up against the door. We pushed the furnited for exactly seven hours and 27 minutes. This was a horrific disaster for our family that we hope never to experience again.
